DISCO 's goal is to encourage open dialogue despite differences of opinion, background, or affiliation. Empathic listening to understand rather than waiting to respond is our greatest intention. We hope this technique will spread to others and be adapted by our listeners and our viewers.
Welcome to the first podcast of DISCO Direct and Indirect Stream of Conscious Observations. This is a continuation of what started with a group of students in 2022. This group discussed issues the students faced and observed in the world around them. Our dream was to continue the group after the semester concluded. I was elected by the group to be it’s leader and President. Seleana Nolen, who is my partner in this podcast project, was Vice President. Guests will join us from time to time. This project intends to be independent and not overly promote or defeat any person, group or idea as to avoid controversy. While we may discuss the person, group or idea, it is only in the spirit of open dialogue with the power of freedom of speech.
We are in desperate times. More so today than when our group initially started. As this grows and develops we will improve ways for you, the listeners and readers, to include your voice.
Interested in who we are? Read our profiles below.
Seleana Nolen was born, raised, and continues to reside in Minneapolis, MN.
As the second youngest of 10 children, she grew up in a home that provided emergency shelter and foster care for children in the Hennepin County Metro area. Those experiences deeply shaped her compassion and empathy, while instilling her natural ability to meet people where they are. Understanding that life's challenges are not always self-inflicted.
These values laid the foundation for her 25+ year career in healthcare, where she has served in both leadership and support roles. Seleana has dedicated herself to caring for others, not only in clinical settings but also throughout the community. Her service includes organizing blood drives, coaching youth basketball, and volunteering at neighborhood events.
The George Floyd protests marked a turning point in her life, expanding her focus beyond healthcare to broader social justice and community healing. She became deeply committed to fostering unity and creating inclusive spaces where people can experience empathy, enlightenment, and opportunities for growth. Her work now centers on promoting humanity and dismantling discrimination.
Seleana holds a bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Management, Ethics, and Project Management, as well as a master’s degree in Advocacy and Political Leadership. Her passion and purpose continue to drive her efforts to serve, connect, and uplift her community
Timbre Rogers grew up in NW Wisconsin. At age 6 it was determined he was born with Neurofibromatosis, NF1. He had neurological, learning and physical weaknesses due to traits associated with the disorder. In the early 80's not much was known about it or how to treat the condition or adjust teaching styles to accommodate my needs. It wasn't till much later, in his junior and senior years of High School did he come into his own and learn how to overcome my deficits. Socially he still struggled to fit in since all my peers still remembered him how he was before. Though some tried to reach out to him, he now greatly appreciate those efforts, unfortunately he was still withdrawn at the time. His adult years were much better but he still had deficits which he slowly learned to overcome. At the age of 35 he suffered a right hemisphere stroke. He survived to the surprise of many doctors. He had a lot to overcome all over again. As he recovered he renewed my pursuits of being a photographer with gusto. Timbre got to live his dream to a success. Later he changed goals and finally graduated college. Receiving an AA in Accounting from Minneapolis college and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a Project Management Minor graduating Deans List and Cum Laude in 2024 During schooling Timbre was part of a student group called DISCO Diverse and Inclusive Student Council Organization where to his surprise he was elected president. They were insistent of the role despite his race, gender and orientation. Timbre was humbled. Timbre's partner in this podcast Seleana was elected VP. It was our intention to carry on the intention of the group after graduation which brings us here today.
Timbre enjoys volunteering, was a founding volunteer in a charity in Los Angeles and regularly volunteers for his local Humane Society for both human and animal outreach services.
